Acknowledging BIF

It is important that the use of the Biological Imaging Facility is properly acknowledged in your publication. Acknowledgement helps us demonstrate our value to the research community, and it significantly enhances our future efforts to secure funding to bring you even more instruments and services.

Anyone who uses BIF should include the General Acknowledgment (below) in their publication. If you used specific equipment the sentence that matches the instrument (below) should be added.

General acknowledgment
Imaging work was performed at the Northwestern University Biological Imaging Facility generously supported by the NU Office for Research.

Leica Confocal
Confocal microscopy was performed on a Leica TCS SP2 laser scanning confocal microscope system purchased with the support of NCRR 1S10RR015692

Leica EM-PACT2 High-pressure Freezer
Specimens were high-pressure frozen with a Leica EM-PACT2 purchased with the support of NCRR 1S10RR022494

Leica EM-PACT2 High-pressure Freezer and AFS2 Freeze-substitution
Unit Specimens were cryoprocessed with a Leica EM-PACT2 and Leica AFS2 purchased with the support of NCRR 1S10RR022494

Cressington CFE-60 Quick-Freeze Deep-Etch (QFDE) Unit
Specimens were prepared with a Cressington CFE-60 QFDE Unit purchased with the support of NCRR S10 RR16701.

JEOL 3200 Field-emission TEM
Electron microscopy was performed on a JEOL 3200 FETEM purchased with the support of NCRR 1S10RR025092

For example, if you use the Leica LSCM system in BIF, then the acknowledgment should read:

Imaging work was performed at the Northwestern University Biological Imaging Facility generously supported by the NU Office for Research. Confocal microscopy was performed on a Leica TCS SP2 laser scanning confocal microscope system purchased with the support of NCRR 1S10RR025624-01.

We would appreciate receiving a PDF copy of the published papers.
For every PDF paper you submit to us (with acknowledgement of the facility) we will give your lab a free hour on the instrument of your choice. One hour per citation.
